Volnay 2016, Domaine Lucien Boillot
£53.95 per bottle
A classic Volnay from Domaine Lucien Boillot; deep inky red in colour with a nose of black cherries and violets. Structured on the palate with medium grip tannins supporting the sweet black fruit flavours, these are followed by a linear mineral character which lingers on the finish.
Serve with veal, partridge or a mushroom risotto.
The Cote d`Or is the overarching area encompassing the Cote de Nuits and Cote de Beaune. Burgundy`s finest wines come from within the Cote d`Or region, the whites made from Chardonnay and the reds from Pinot Noir.
The Boillot estate originated in Volnay in the 1850s and was relocated in the village of Gevrey Chambertin some 100 years later. A vineyard holding across 14 appellations has been pieced together over this time. Now managed by Louis and Pierre Boillot and Pierre is today a winemaker on top of his form, making velvety soft red Burgundy with impeccable structure.
