Tasting notes
Despite cruel April frost, Benjamin Leroux has created an exceptional Saint Romain. “Leroux’s passion, ambition and sheer talent have already resulted in a number of stunning, beautiful wines” (Wine Advocate). Enjoy its lime, apple and creamy spice.
Saint Romain is a beautiful little cliff-top village in the Côte de Beaune, overlooking Benjamin Leroux’s tiny, half hectare Sous le Château vineyard. Planted at the foot of the cliff, Bernard’s organically grown vines – aged between 20 and 60 years – are sheltered from the cold northerly winds. Another beneficial aspect of this site is the abundance of surface stones which radiate heat and help bring the fruit to full, plump ripeness. The grapes are hand harvested in small batches and gently pressed prior to ageing in large, old oak barrels, although Benjamin used one new oak barrique to add a subtle, toasty, vanilla dimension to this fruit driven white. A terrific white Burgundy from an outstanding producer and at an affordable price!
