Tasting Notes
Sourced from old vines in Paarl this aromatic Chenin Blanc is made using the free-run juice for fermentation, then left on the lees for two months before bottling. On the nose an attractive abundance of ripe pear, quince and spring blossom. The palate is light and fresh with a delicate mouthfeel, crisp citrus and apple flavours linger on a very smooth finish.
Food
Perfect for caesar salads, goats cheese dishes and spicy asian cuisine. Otherwise as an apertif on a warm summers evening.
Region
The Coastal Region is undoubtedly the most important wine producing region of the country. This is the historical heart of South African wines. Although a large appellation, the most prominent areas within this region are concentrated around the Cape Peninsula and the Northern Cape spreading across 420 miles (700 km) north to south. The coastal influence of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans is one of the most influential climatic feature that affects the wine industry in the coastal region. The overall warm climate helps to ripen the grapes during the day whereas the cold nights ensure that the flavour profiles and the acidity of the wines are maintained. Like the climate, the Coastal Region`s soil profile also varies dramatically across the landscape. These range from clay dominated, moisture retaining soils, well draining shales to calcareous and lime-rich outcrops.
Producer
The Cape Wine Company was founded in 2010 by Erlank Erasmus, who previously had ten years of experience in winemaking in the industry, however decided to start a new venture of his own to produce exceptional wines from the Western Cape. The family is based just south of Paarl, which is where Erlank sources the grapes for his wines, all from smaller local growers. Given the rich history of the country, Cape Wine company proudly gives back to local communities and the smaller growers that assist in production, from vine to bottle, through participating in the Fairtrade initiative. This ensures that the local farms benefit through sustainability and equality measures.
