2012 VINTAGE
The 2012 growing cycle began with a hot, dry autumn, a situation which continued all through the winter. At the start of budding the level of rainfall recorded up to that point was the lowest in the last 22 years. This lack of rainfall meant that the shedding of the buds’ sheath only commenced around 14 April. Flowering started around 1 June, a month with exceptionally high temperatures, with hardly any rain. This meant that the vine canopy developed very quickly.
Veraison started on 25 July. The summer was extremely dry leading to small berries and clusters, especially on those vines growing furthest south in the region. Harvesting began on 17 September, in a very selective way due to the uneven ripening between plots. In the final straight the rains came, along with a sharp fall in temperatures, factors which combined to help the correct ripening of the grape berries and in particular the pips and skins.
The vegetative cycle lasted 210 days.
