Tasting Notes
A premium Marlborough Chardonnay. Fermented in French oak barrels, 15% new which adds both texture and flavour to the wine. Notes of ripe stone fruits such as peach and nectarine with some tropical pineapple notes complemented by a creamy texture and melted butter on the finish, all balanced perfectly by a zesty acidity.

Food
Serve with fish such as hallibut or cod and shellfish such as scallops in a buttery sauce.

Region
The northern tip of South Island has become New Zealand`s most important wine region since sheep farming and cherry orchards were first replaced with vineyard in the 1970s. Much of the land is alluvial river basin with well-drained soils that provide an ideal environment for pungent, grassy Sauvignon Blanc. Pinot Noir from the more suitable clay slopes and Pinot Gris are also proving world-beaters.

Producer
Founded by Clive Dougall, who was Winemaker at Seresin Estate for 12 years, and Peter Lorimer, who promoted boutique New Zealand brands around the globe with his company the New Zealand Wine Portfolio, Deep Down is about honest wines forged with intuition and heart. Their wines are small batch, low intervention, delicious and approachable, produced from land farmed with care, vineyards managed with respect, and a team dedicated to honest wine from an incredible region. Deep Down is about trusting your gut feeling and intuition, and the name reflects the duo’s decision to do just that – to do what they believe in, knowing that working organically and ethically is the only way forward. Deep Down also speaks of geographical roots, deep down in the unique soils of a region known for its terroir, in a country known for its purity.
