Region
Hawkes Bay is situated on the east coast of New Zealand`s North Island, right on the 40 degree South parallel. It is a temperate, maritime climate distinctly influenced by the Pacific Ocean to the east and protected from the west by a mountain range, giving low rainfall with the redominantly westerly weather pattern. The coastal gravels and mile climate allow for great red Bordeaux style wines and increasingly Rhone varietals using Syrah and Viognier.

Producer
Founded in 1937, Brookfields Vineyards is Hawke`s Bay`s Oldest Boutique Winery, situated alongside the glistening waters of the Tutaekuri River, between Napier and Hastings. The winery was purchased by the current owner and winemaker Peter Robertson, in 1977, who has since transformed Brookfields into a leading winery for New Zealand premium wines.

Tasting Notes
Made from grapes grown on the Ohiti estate, the Bergman Chardonnay takes its name from the `Ingrid Bergman` roses which are planted in front of the winery. A straw gold in colour with notes of ripe stone fruits on the nose. The palate has depth and weight from 9 months in old French and American oak. Ripe peach and apricot notes combine with toast and a hint of flint, all complemented by a fresh, citrus acidity.

Food
Serve with herb braised pork or chicken dishes in a creamy sauce.
