The palate is powerful and voluminous, with an attack that is distinct and clear. It unfolds with initial aromas of luscious red fruit, strawberry and Morello cherry. Next to arrive are dense notes of noble tannins; their velvety, silky caress is the perfect counterpoint to Vintage Rosé 2012’s spicy saffron and peppery notes.

Owning 500 hectares of vineyards, Veuve Clicquot is the second largest producer in Champagne. Unlike a number of Champagne houses which have more recently started to produce rosé, for veuve clicquot it has been a signature Champagne since 1775. Blended from 52% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay and 18% pinot Meurnier, the rosé colour derives from the addition of red wine (Pinot Noir) from the Montagne de Reims. The complexity yes consitency of Veuve Clicquot Brut rosé is due to the huge component elements - the grapes, the source vineyards, the particular vintages, all contributing to the classic, medium bodied rosé champagne.

Way ahead of other houses producing rosé, Veuve Clicquot as a young widow not only innovated in aspects of production - for example the turning of bottles to make clear wine, introducing the technique of remuage, she also expanded the house's ownership of vineyards and opened supply links with Russia. Production is now at 12 million bottles annually. Although modern techniques are embraced, there has been a return to fermenting in oak for vintage Champagnes.
