The grape is predominantly Pinot Noir (60%), which together with the fermentation in oak and stainless steel results in the depth and extent of this Bollinger Champagne, while the relatively low sugar content (8-9 g/l or grammes per litre) guarantees it freshness.

ABV 12.5%

Available in cases of bottles and magnums

The house of Pommery started as a modest producer of red wine. Founded in 1843 and a family dynasty still, it is now owned by LVMH who bought it in 1999, but it still retains its unique character. the signal qualities of Krug are due to the very particular approach and methods used in its production. The house has a broad but discerning attitude with regard to blend and proportion in the cuvées. The unusual favouring and predominance of Pinot Meunier results in the production of highly successful vintage champagne. The Krug house does not follow received adages, but takes an empirical approach without prejudice. Champagne elaboration is an inexact, organic science; every harvest is different and there needs to be on-going modification of process to respond to the changing style and preference of consumers. The first traces of the chateau’s site date back to Gaullist times during which its location served as a lookout point to spot intruders coming by boat into the Gulf of Frejus. The chateau’s cellar structure or foundation (known today as the oldest in the region) housed an original Chateau that was given by the Comte de Provence to Gérard De Villeneuve, in 1201. The current chateau, inspired by Tuscan Villa design, was built during the mid 19th century.

Château d’Esclans lies in the center of the Department of the Var, where the majority of Provence AOC rosé is produced. The land was occupied as long as 2500 years ago when it was probably used as a lookout point for intruders sailing into the Gulf of Frejus. The original château—of which now only the cellar remains—dates back to before the 12th century. In 1201, Gérard De Villeneuve, part of a wealthy family from Marseille, took ownership of the château and the majority of the surface area of the Vallée d’Esclans that would eventually be sold off in lots. Two brothers, Sauver Louis Ranque and Francois Alexandre Ranque, were the next to own the château, known then as Terre d’Esclans.

In 1875, they sold the property to Joseph Toussaint Caussemille, who manufactured wooden matches near Marseilles. In 1955, the Perraud family owned the property until 1994. At that time, it was purchased by a Swedish pension fund that produced a small amount of wine and the remaining grapes were sold to neighboring winemakers. Sacha Lichine aquired Château d’Esclans in 2006. Today there are 108 acres (44 ha) of vineyards. The total proprety has 659 acres (267 ha).

The primary grape grown on the property is Grenache followed by Vermentino. Other grapes include Cinsault, Merlot, Mourvèdre, Syrah, and Tibouren. The château is known for its old Grenache vines which produce grapes that offer greater concentration of flavor than do the younger vines. As the elevation to where the lots are situated increases, so do the age of the vines. At the highest elevated lot vines are as old as 90 years.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0131/6713/2731/products/whispering_angel_double_magnum_64dedaac-420d-4a5b-85cd-e9dad1412db9.png?v=1563531112
nyetimber-classic-cuvee-nv-england
Nyetimber Classic Cuvée NV England

£39.95 per bottle

ABV 12%

GRAPE VARIETY
50 to 60% Chardonnay
13 to 40% Pinot Noir
10 to 20% Pinot Meunier

The pale-golden hue and fine bubbles make our flagship Classic Cuvee Multi-Vintage the ideal occasion-ready drink – whether it’s toasting a big birthday or simply finishing a busy week. Oak aged for fuller flavour, the individuality of each version is exactly described through the unique number on each bottle which gives details of the grape, elaboration, maturation and use of great reserve wines.

Krug has produced a new cuvée every year for 163 years, each are not from cross but very selective blending.

*Please note this does not come in gift box.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0131/6713/2731/products/krug_nv_2d6d7b9a-6a57-4752-9076-50245ec309d7.png?v=1550849273
piper-heidsieck-brut-nv-champagne-bottle-75cl
Piper-Heidsieck Brut NV Champagne Bottle 75cl

ABV 12%

Plenty of freshness with citrus notes, such as grapefruit, followed by Russett apple and crunchy, juicy pear. Rather than being a sub-category of the generic Bordeaux appellation, Bordeaux Superieur is a title in its own right, specifically covering both red and white wines. The reds have a slightly higher alcoholic content than standard Bordeaux, are aged for longer in oak barrels (12 months minimum) and are produced from older vines. The whites are distinguished from standard white Bordeaux by their higher residual sugar levels, which make the wines anything from semi-sweet to liquoreux. Bordeaux Superieur wines are produced from the classic Bordelais grape varieties. The reds are made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Carmenere, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot (proportions vary according to vineyard locations), and generally tend to be a little richer and more complex than regular Bordeaux. They also, theoretically, offer better ageing potential, but this can be down to the winemaking. The whites are produced from Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris, Semillon and Muscadelle. They also tend to be a little more complex, due to the slightly lower maximum yields dictated by the Superieur production conditions. About a quarter of the vineyard coverage dedicated to AOC Bordeaux wine production is given over to Bordeaux Superieur. It is spread across the region, with a bias towards the areas north of Saint-Emilion and Pomerol where more location-specific

Producer
A superb 12th century property located on one of the highest points of the rolling `Entre-Deux-Mers` wine region of Bordeaux, near the town of Langon. The style is generous in fruit and flavour but balanced with the judicious use of French oak barrels to give hints of nutty complexity.

£19.95 per bottle

ABV 13.5%

James Suckling awarded 92 points and Robert Parker awarded 90 points.

Tasting Notes
Attractive red colour with violet hues and aromas of intense ripe fruit, cherries, blackberries, blueberries, and fresh plums, combined with spicy and floral hints. Many early winemakers were of Italian origin and brought with them their native Barbera, Bonarda and Sangiovese. However, it is Malbec, originally from Bordeaux and the south west of France, that has established the most successful presence in Mendoza.

Producer
Located in the high altitude Tupungato Valley region of Mendoza, this modern winery benefits from a long, cool growing season and strong UV sunlight that helps maximise the aromas and complexity of the resulting grapes. Tupungato sits at the western extreme of Mendoza right at the foot of the Andes mountains with an elevation of 1,200 meters giving benefit to the vineyards from a much cooler climate, abundant sun, and sharp contrast between day and night temperatures. When all the above is combined it allows the winemaker the opportunity to produce wines with utmost expression. Unsettled weather and wind during flowering, along with a freak hail storm and low levels of soil moisture decreased yields by 20% to 50%.
