The grapes are received in the winery at the optimum point of ripeness and then undergo the natural processes of alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel vats, with very strict control of the temperature during these processes. Many early winemakers were of Italian origin and brought with them their native Barbera, Bonarda and Sangiovese. However, it is Malbec, originally from Bordeaux and the south west of France, that has established the most successful presence in Mendoza.

Producer
Located in the high altitude Tupungato Valley region of Mendoza, this modern winery benefits from a long, cool growing season and strong UV sunlight that helps maximise the aromas and complexity of the resulting grapes. Tupungato sits at the western extreme of Mendoza right at the foot of the Andes mountains with an elevation of 1,200 meters giving benefit to the vineyards from a much cooler climate, abundant sun, and sharp contrast between day and night temperatures. When all the above is combined it allows the winemaker the opportunity to produce wines with utmost expression. Wine consultant Michel Rolland (from Bordeaux) has added his expertise to this project and in the last few years since launch the range of wines have received numerous awards and accolades.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0131/6713/2731/products/AltosurMalbec_cb16b5cb-427a-453c-bfc5-ddc7ecc30dec.png?v=1603707095
bollinger-special-cuvee-nv-champagne-bottle-75cl-gift-case-sale
Bollinger Special Cuvée NV Champagne - Flash Sale

£49.95 per bottle

ABV 12%

From the vineyards of this still run family Champagne house of Bollinger at Aij and vineyards at Cuis, this full-bodied NV Champagne unleashes a broad range of nuanced flavours on the palate.The richness and complexity which characterize this mellow, fine Champagne are due to the methods employed by Bollinger; for the particular component blend of vintages, only the juice of first pressings is used. The first traces of the chateau’s site date back to Gaullist times during which its location served as a lookout point to spot intruders coming by boat into the Gulf of Frejus. The chateau’s cellar structure or foundation (known today as the oldest in the region) housed an original Chateau that was given by the Comte de Provence to Gérard De Villeneuve, in 1201. The current chateau, inspired by Tuscan Villa design, was built during the mid 19th century.

Château d’Esclans lies in the center of the Department of the Var, where the majority of Provence AOC rosé is produced. The land was occupied as long as 2500 years ago when it was probably used as a lookout point for intruders sailing into the Gulf of Frejus. The original château—of which now only the cellar remains—dates back to before the 12th century. In 1201, Gérard De Villeneuve, part of a wealthy family from Marseille, took ownership of the château and the majority of the surface area of the Vallée d’Esclans that would eventually be sold off in lots. Two brothers, Sauver Louis Ranque and Francois Alexandre Ranque, were the next to own the château, known then as Terre d’Esclans.

In 1875, they sold the property to Joseph Toussaint Caussemille, who manufactured wooden matches near Marseilles. In 1955, the Perraud family owned the property until 1994. At that time, it was purchased by a Swedish pension fund that produced a small amount of wine and the remaining grapes were sold to neighboring winemakers. Sacha Lichine aquired Château d’Esclans in 2006. Today there are 108 acres (44 ha) of vineyards. The total proprety has 659 acres (267 ha).

The primary grape grown on the property is Grenache followed by Vermentino. Other grapes include Cinsault, Merlot, Mourvèdre, Syrah, and Tibouren. The château is known for its old Grenache vines which produce grapes that offer greater concentration of flavor than do the younger vines. As the elevation to where the lots are situated increases, so do the age of the vines. At the highest elevated lot vines are as old as 90 years.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0131/6713/2731/products/WhisperingAngelRose2021-24BottleCaseDeal_383d171a-0e01-4039-84f0-1ab902838af1.png?v=1678610921
whispering-angel-rose-2023-chateau-desclans
Whispering Angel Rosé 2025, Bottle 75cl

£19.95 per bottle (6 bottle case)

£23.95 per bottle

ABV 13%

Matthew Jukes First Taste 2024 vintage:
As I talked with Sacha, he let me into a secret. He thinks 2024 is one of the finest vintages he has ever seen in Provence. And, if this wine is anything to go by, he is right. This is a seamless, languid, soothing Whispering Angel with terrific balance and immediate appeal. Sometimes, this wine takes a couple of months to get into its stride. Sometimes, it misses summer altogether, falling into equilibrium in time for turkey at Christmas, although I suspect no one notices or even cares! In 2024, it is impeccable from the off. This is justifiably the most famous / best value rosé in the world and if anyone still thinks otherwise, one sip of this beguilingly lip-smacking wine will change their minds – Chapeau!
Matthew Jukes, 12th March 2025

"I have never really understood why so many people knock Whispering Angel Rosé.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0131/6713/2731/files/whisperingangel1bottle_7c292231-5700-4280-9b1c-085a867fb0cf.jpg?v=1684342837
chateau-chantalouette-2017-pomerol
Chateau Chantalouette 2017, Pomerol - Pétrus Winemaker

£29.95 per bottle

Original Wooden Case

ABV 13.5%

This Pomerol is made by Christian Moueix - the genius behind the World famous Château Pétrus (£4,000+ per bottle).

Rich, smooth and supple with ripe red berry fruit on the nose and notes of spice. Among the most powerful Lafites ever made (it came in at 13.59% alcohol), the final blend was 82.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot. The selection was incredibly severe with only 45% of the crop being utilized. A tight, but potentially gorgeous nose of graphite, black currants, licorice and camphor is followed by a full-bodied wine revealing the classic elegance, purity and delineated style of Lafite. It is phenomenally concentrated with softer tannins than the 2005, the 2003's voluptuous, broad, juicy personality, and low acidity. There are several vintages that I thought were a replay of their colossal 1959, most notably 1982 and 2003, but 2009 is also one to keep an eye on. It is still extremely youthful and seems slightly more backward than I would have guessed based on the barrel tastings, but it needs 10-15 years of bottle age, and should last for 50+."
99+
Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (199), March 2012

"The second you put your nose in the glass, you know that it is 100 points. It extends over an area of 319 hectares (788 acres), of which about 130 (321 acres) are dedicated to vines. Two of the estate’s prized vineyards are on the same hillside, Tignanello and Solaia, on soils that originated from marine marlstone from the Pliocene period rich in limestone and schist. The vines enjoy hot temperatures during the day and cooler evenings throughout the growing season. The estate’s two signature wines, Solaia and Tignanello, are produced from these vineyards and have been defined by the international press as “among the most influential wines in the history of Italian viticulture”. According to Marchesi Antinori, Solaia and Tignanello are an ongoing challenge and a never-ending passion. For the first few vintages of this wine’s release, it had to put up with being Garrus’s less interesting and slightly lighter sibling. But while Garrus received all of the accolades and some perfect scores (from me!), Les Clans never complained. More recently, I have documented in detail Les Clans own character slowing forming and, in the last few vintages, blossoming into a vital individual in this tremendous estate’s portfolio. Last year’s 2019 was a triumphant wine, sultry, sexy, detailed, sophisticated, alluring, forward-drinking and yet blessed with every bit as much glamour and couture as its more structured and more age-worthy, headline-grabbing stablemate, Garrus. In 2020, Les Clans went one step further. It has now introduced even more depth of flavour and length on the finish. You will no doubt be familiar with just how incredible Whispering Angel and Rock Angel are in 2020. Les Clans takes Rock Angel’s impact and bravado and then elevates this impressive delivery of flavour to an otherworldly level of excitement. This wine is near perfect in its perfume and also its palate complexity but it is the approachability, given its breeding, which makes this the most astounding Les Clans to date."
19/20 (Drink now to 2024)

Previous vintage
"It is always such a joy to taste the new Esclans releases 2019 Les Clans is a masterclass in balance and poise. Château d’Esclans wrote the rulebook on crafting statuesque rosé wines and while all others have floundered around for a decade or more, over-oaking, over-macerating, over-blending and generally making all of the mistakes imaginable, this imperious property nailed the recipe first time around and has been fine-tuning ever since. The investment in winemaking equipment here would make both an accountant and a bank manager faint, but the vision and determination of owner Sacha Lichine have paid handsome dividends and more now that Whispering Angel is not a lone figure on the international circuit but a veritable heavenly chorus. It is clear to me, having tasted legions of 2019 rosés that this is a brilliant vintage and therefore great wines must be expected to step up. Les Clans is always built with exacting precision and so it is hard to imagine where improvements can be made! That said, I am of the mind that this is the finest release of this celestial wine to date and the superb silkiness is but one of its extraordinary attributes. Les Clans is sometimes guilty of being a little shy on the nose, but this 2019 is positively forward as it rushes from the glass to greet you. In terms of the balance, this is a full-framed wine but it seems effortlessly graceful, too. We have come to expect greatness from this label and this is what 2019 Les Clans dutifully rewards you with. While other estates strive to make wines with this level of gravitas most fall well short of the mark. Château d’Esclans will one day have true rivals, but for now, if you have the choice and also the budget to spend, then this is the wine that you will want in your glass."
Matthewjukes.com 07/10/2020

“Full body plus loads of flavor and richness.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0131/6713/2731/files/whispering_angel_473x473_cf3a767e-2712-45dc-a9d1-e21503385e16.jpg?v=1709831551
rustico-moscatel-2022
Rustico Moscatel 2022

£11.95 per bottle

ABV 12.5%

TASTING NOTES

This Chilean Moscatel shows those lovely distinctive varietal aromas of grape and elderflower. This historical, cool-climate region is dominated by plantings of Carignan, Muscat of Alexandria and Pais. The first vines are said to have arrived in the Itata Valley the 1550s, potentially making the region one of the first to be planted with vines in Chile. The high-altitude Coastal Range, which brings moderated weather conditions to many vineyards further north, peters out as it reaches the port city of Concepcion, leaving Itata relatively exposed. This means that weather patterns moving from the Pacific Ocean to the Andes are unhindered, resulting in higher rainfall and cloud cover. This cool climate is complemented by alluvial soils made up of sandy and clay loam, deposited in the valley over time by the Itata and Nuble rivers.

Producer
VFC are a certified sustainable organisation that is a collaboration of two families who are based in the Maule Valley, specifically within the sub-valley and town of San Javier. Why 281? A nod to the blue Pantone number used to decorate the bottle. This intense blue pays homage to the Mediterranean Sea, whose proximity influences and optimizes the quality of Minuty's vineyards every day. 281 is also inspired by the visionary and revolutionary ambition of Etienne Matton, father of Jean-Etienne and François. Back in the 70s, he created a selection of Grenache clones exclusive to the estate, from which the best parcels reserved for Cuvée 281 are grown today. This rosé pays tribute to the family heritage and the Minuty terroir.
A parcel-by-parcel selection of the estate's three great terroirs presides over this cuvée. To the Grenache from a single clone have been added the Château's beautiful Syrah grapes to bring those spicy, peppery notes to the finish. Like the rest of the estate, the grapes are grown under HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) certification, with grassing adapted to the soil type and exposure.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0131/6713/2731/files/whispering_angel_double_magnum_9082bc74-2b5b-4f7a-ac58-7c19f7955c94.png?v=1684838285
chateau-desclans-2022-rose-flash-sale
Chateau d'Esclans 2024 Rosé - Flash Sale

£39.95 per bottle

NEW LOW PRICE

"Made by the creators of the world-famous Whispering Angel rosé - the property where this is produced features the cherubic angels that inspired that wine on its chapel walls - this has sensational class and a profoundly long finish."
Matthew Jukes' Wine List - Daily Mail 12.03.2022

This is a new release from Chateau d'Esclans and sits between Rock Angel and Les Clans.
